It was kinda "Remote Interview"... not the traditional one..

The Interview

Question: How can you describe " Dr. Zeeshan ul Hassan Usmani " ?
ANSWER: I am a shameless idealist. We are all idealists at some stage of our lives but then it fades away and we live as a mediocre. I don’t want it to fade away. I remind myself almost every day that I need to make my today better than my yesterday, and the challenge is keep getting harder J. We only need to compete against ourselves. No one knows what runs inside me and I shouldn’t be comparing myself with anyone else

QUESTION: What do you think, about the future of Data Science in Pakistan and other countries ?

ANSWER: Data Science is on the rise. We can clearly see more jobs and opportunities in coming years. With Blockchain, AI and open datasets worldwide, data science is the future. One should focus on acquiring data science skills. You can do remote work if right opportunity is not available here.

QUESTION: You have written many books, one is : "khoj" is it your autobiography and what is the central idea of this book ?
ANSWER: Khoj is Abdullah’s story. Abdullah is every one of us. The central idea is pretty simple. We try to chase the so called “success” for most of our lives, that is the desires and wishes of everyone else around us. We chase it so hard without knowing what we will do once we have everything we wished for and why we need that in the first place. At some stage of our lives, every Abdullah recognize it and then we try to figure out what “significance” is. If we know what significance is from day 1, we will have a different life altogether. The book is about how to differentiate between success and significance and which one to choose when

QUESTION: What is your Aim in life ?
ANSWER: My aim in life is to fulfil my purpose and we don’t have a choice here. We need to be a good human with good values and a kind heart. Someone once said, kindness is the rent we need to pay to occupy the space on this planet. If you want to be successful, you need to make sure to have a hand in the success of everyone around you. I like to increase the intellectual capital of everyone I associated with

QUESTION: Being a data scientist, How you see Pakistan in coming years ?
ANSWER: Pakistan has a lot of talent but less jobs and will to make data driven decisions. Politics, corruption, nepotism gets most of the opportunities. I hope once we have the crucial mass in data science, we can educate and force the potentates to change their trajectory

QUESTION: Briefly tell us about your routine and Are you satisfied with your life ?
ANSWER: I don’t follow any special routine. I am as ordinary as it can get. I only try to optimize my time wherever possible and it means almost every minute of my day. A wise man is never satisfied with everything, It’s a continuous journey. Satisfaction is not something you chase, it’s a bi-product of good work you do and there is no limit of how much good you can bring to this world

QUESTION: What is your advice for Students ?
ANSWER: Do not depend on your teachers or university or parents or friends.  Education is your “personal” responsibility. Try to learn as much as you can, do dozens of MOOCs every month, read a lot (min 100 pages a day) and keep your heads down. It’s not wise to have an opinion on everything at this stage. Flow like water and gather as much as you can in these years. Do not miss a single chance to travel, read, learn and network with good people

Once again we thank Respected Dr. Zeeshan-ul-Hassan Usmani for his precious time.
